Land Pollution

On Thursday 2nd of June , I participate in a presentation about land pollution with my Group members, Ahmed Alhammadi, Saif Alsaedi, Saeed Alqubaisi and myself, Talal Alshehhi.

My part is to talk about the causes and effects of the land pollution, but first we need to know what land pollution is. Land pollution is where our land may be as far as being contaminated. All the types of waste can be found on land. Some left behind after human activities and some is washed ashore from boats and sewage outlets, so basically, land pollution are caused by us, human.

The main cause of land pollution is us. We are creating too much unnecessary waste. In addition of this, we don’t recycle the waste we create. Many of the resources we use in our life are disposed quickly. Food wrapped in paper, drinks is in throw-away bottles or cans, batteries, all disposed to end up as a waste, and although all of these mentioned waste could be recycled. There are other types of waste which considered more harmful to land such as chemical plants, coal-fired power plants, oil refineries, nuclear waste, large animal farms, metal production factories, plastic factories and other heavy industry.
The rubbish collected from our homes and offices, instead of being recycled, are thrown in large land marked by the governments which cause major land pollution.
Tons and tons of waste are dumped every day because people do not follow the proper methods for waste disposal which leave places look dirty and make them unhealthy. Skin problems among humans are often related to land pollution, it is said that the improper waste disposal cause allergic reaction to the skin. Land pollution also found guilty when it comes to birth defects, pregnant lady which lives in an unhealthy environment can incur breathing problems and number of diseases which affect the health of the baby. Land pollution often disrupts the balance of nature, causing human fatalities.

The presentation lasted about half an hour, and everybody did well in their parts.

My Presentation Skills

This Semister I had an class called LSEC-N101 which I learned about how to give a succesful presentations. First, I started by giving a semi-formal presentation abou the diffrences between an Ipad and a Laptop, It was hard and scary at the beginning and I did some mistakes.

My part is to talk about the Ipad I started going to the library and searching for some information to help me with my presentation, I searched the internet and I read some books which helped me gathering some useful information. On the presentation day, I was nervous and froze at some moments, I started to forget the information I memorized before, but as the presention was going, so was I, I kept talking and tried to use the skills I learned during the class like using my hands, make an eye contact and give a clear voice. The thing I thought I did well in was using information that was easy for the attenders to understand, I used a clear voice and an easy set of vocabulare for everybody to understand. One of the things I thought that I should imporove next time, was the pauses between the sentences and to know when to stop talking and give the attenders a time to think of the information I just gave.

Last week I had a formal presentation and it went well, it was about Land pollution, my part was to talk about the causes and the effects of land pollution. This time I was more confidant and I did not shouk at the beginning like my last presentation, my voice was clear, good eye contact and my powerpoint slides had more information than last time. I felt more confidant and I know what I was doing, I was looking directly to the faces like I was talking to them.

I learned so much from this course, useful skills on how to deliver my point to some one else and how to be in the spot light. In the future, I am sure these skills will be very helpful for me every where, for example, in my job, when I have a new idea which will help my carrer , I can give it to my supervisiors easly and without being afried. The biggest challenge I faced in my formal presentation was to find the right vocabulares to make the idea simpelar, and I had to search alot for the information which will make my presentation sounds more serious. In the future, I need to do more preperation everytime I want to do a presentation or participate in on.

Finally, I'm really glad I joined this course , I felt this course will really help me in my future and everyday life.

Semi-Formal Presentation Summary

I joined a presentation with my classmates Ahmed Alhamady, Saif Alsaedi and Saeed Alqubesi, it took place in room T005 at 4:30 PM.

The presentation was about the diffrence between the regular Laptop and the Apple Ipad, and the time was aproximatly fiften minutes long. Everybody did their best in this presentation, everyone was nervous at the beggining, but once they start talking, everything went smooth. It started with the introduction presented by Saif, he had a nice clear voice and made everybody in the room giving him all their attention, but the only thing I noticed his hands was behind his back. After that, Ahmed start talking about the history of Laptops and the fetures, great eye contact and very confidant and seems to know what he was talking about, but he move alot during the presentation. Then, I start explaning about the Ipod and how important it is in our life now, I tried to show confident but I think that I need to practice more on my preformance. The conclution was made by saeed who give a nice summry about what we talked about and gave everybody very nice information about the presentation, although, he need  to learn more vocabulary for this kind of presentations.

In the end, I think everybody did a good job in the presentation , we might need to put more information in our presentations next time.

Meeting report:
Today’s meeting was held at 14:20 and concluded at 14:50 on the 14th of March 2011. The ADMC Room W104 was the location for this forum. All principle members were present to include the Chair/Lead Mr. Ahmed Alhamadi, Minutes Keeper: Mr. Talal Alshehhi and fellow board members Mr. Saif Asaeedi, and Mr. Saeed Hareb. The major topics of this discussion were the student success and how to achieve it. We started our meeting by finding out  that some students do not understand their subjects. One way would be by giving more English lessons for the students who are week in English and ask their teachers to use some easier method to help them understand the subject. One of the problems facing the students these days that they are not familiar with the lecture they are taking. Using more techniques to lecture the student is one way to help prevent this problem. Also teachers should take some lessons of how to deal with the average students. Carelessness is a major issue for students. We thought that making an open day with parents as an activity day would help to give information to the parents about their children in a nice way.  Some students are shy in class, we need to make them participate in some outdoor activates with the other classmates and it will break the ice. By giving students more homework and exams, the lack of studying habit should be solved.  Our ideas and suggestions will be sent to the student academic service manager Mr. Khalid Abdullah next meeting will be held in three weeks time. The meeting was useful and went well, all members were happy and satisfied with the result.
